Conference Program Now Available!

Come One! Come All!

Because of the global pandemic, we’ve temporarily shelved our plans for an in-person conference this Spring, rescheduling our face-to-face Florida gathering for February 2022. But the show must go on, and we’re pleased to continue our yearly conference tradition with a virtual opportunity this coming February. We hope you’ll plan to join us. 2021’s virtual conference will be free to all current TYCA-SE members. Non-members who would like to attend should purchase membership and members should renew membership for 2021 before the conference for access.

Session Types

In order to facilitate full exploration of this theme, there will be multiple session types:

Traditional sessions: These 30-minute sessions will consist of a 20-minute presentation, with the remaining 10 minutes allotted for questions and discussions at the end. Sessions designed to encourage interactivity and audience participation are always appreciated.

Lightning sessions: Lightning talks are concise, 5-minute presentations that focus on one main point. These sessions are designed to quickly share a teaching strategy, an approach, or a lesson. Slides are optional.

Roundtable discussions: These sessions will run for 30 minutes, and should encourage interactive participation from attendees.

Session Delivery

All sessions will be held via WebEx and will be moderated by staff from Florida State College at Jacksonville.

Call for Proposals

For our organization’s first virtual conference, consider the theme of Connecting Communities In and Out of the Classroom. For many of our institutions, creating a strong sense of community among students can be difficult: some students commute long distances, others attend night classes to accommodate work schedules, and still others attend solely in an online capacity. This absence from traditional campus life has only been exacerbated in recent months with many colleges moving to fully online instruction. As educators, how can we encourage and promote community development or sustainability in our classrooms and beyond? Further, it is important for us as instructors to collaborate and learn within communities of faculty. How do you manage faculty collaboration on your campus? How do we keep in touch with current protocols that prioritize physical isolation?

Session Topics

We invite proposals for all session types on topics including the following:

●     Facilitating effective synchronous online learning

●     Promoting diversity in the classroom

●     Leading effective discussions

●     Addressing difficult topics

●     Responding to students’ personal struggles

●     Fostering an inclusive learning environment

●     Trauma-informed teaching

●     Writing across the curriculum

●     Digital/technological equity

●     Service learning

●     Open Educational Resources

●     Collaborative tools for 21st century learning

●     Effective group work

●     Writing communities

Please submit your proposal via the button below. Deadline for submission is December 31, 2020.
