Just outside of the bustle of the city, Decatur, GA is one of Atlanta’s friendliest neighborhoods and this year, Decatur is host to the TYCA-SE 2020 Conference.  Our conference theme 2020: Hindsight, Foresight, and Insight invites us all to look back at our success and the lessons we have learned, look forward to the future of our profession and education, and look inward to what inspires us and helps our students succeed.

Be sure to arrive in time for our opening session as our opening speaker’s novels speak to all three aspects of our conference theme. Thomas Mullen’s works range in genre from historical fiction to dystopian thrillers, and each one offers new insights into human nature.  Set in 1948 Atlanta, Darktown and Lightening Men explore murder, police corruption, and race relations in the city’s first African-American police department.  His other works include The Last Town on Earth and The Revisionists.

On Thursday, get red carpet ready and join us to celebrate the “Hollywood of the South” at our trivia party.  Walk the red carpet and prepare to test your knowledge of film, television, and music tied to Atlanta. Bring your trivia team or sign up at the conference desk to be teamed up and make new friends.

Our Friday luncheon speaker, Tayari Jones is author of four novels. Her most recent work, American Marriage, is an Oprah’s Book Club Selection and appeared on Barak Obama’s summer reading list and his end of the year roundup.  Her third novel, Silver Sparrow was added to the NEA Big Read Library of Classics in 2016.

On Friday evening, grab your friends and enjoy one of Decatur’s great restaurants, bars, and shops all located within walking distance or hop in a car and head to Ponce City Market to explore one of the city’s most vibrant food halls and markets located in the historic Sears, Roebuck, & Co. building in Atlanta.  We know you’ll find something to love in Decatur, and we can’t wait to welcome you here!
